Segway PT Wheels, Tyres & Rims

Here you will find wheels, tyres, rims and tyre accessories for Segway PT i2 and x2 models of the Gen2 and SE generations. The range includes road, all-round and off-road tyres, original Segway wheels, PT Pro aluminium rims, inner tubes and additional wheel and tyre components.

Tyres and inflation pressure directly influence ride comfort, traction, range and tyre wear on a Segway PT. Tyre selection should therefore consider not only size and tread pattern but also the vehicle, application and desired riding characteristics.

Selected tyres and wheel solutions are also suitable for specific balance wheelchairs and seating systems. Always check the individual product compatibility before ordering.

Tyres, wheels and rims for Segway PT i2 and x2

Tyres have a major influence on Segway PT riding characteristics. Tread pattern, tyre size and inflation pressure affect traction, ride comfort, range and tyre wear.

PT Pro offers different tyre and rim solutions for Segway PT i2 and x2 as well as selected applications on balance wheelchairs and seating systems. The specific compatibility of each product must always be checked.

Segway PT i2 tyres – road, everyday use and different applications

Different tyre profiles and sizes are available for the Segway PT i2. These include tyres in 100/65-14 and 80/80-14 as well as additional solutions used with suitable PT Pro rim systems.

The appropriate tyre depends on the intended use. A road tyre has different requirements for rolling resistance, comfort and handling than a tyre intended for mixed surfaces.

Tyres used by PT Pro include the Heidenau K84 in 100/65-14 and the Heidenau K66 in 80/80-14. The specific recommendation depends on the vehicle, rim and intended application.

Segway PT x2 tyres – all-round and off-road

The Segway PT x2 uses considerably wider tyres than the i2 and is designed for applications involving a greater proportion of unpaved surfaces. This category includes different tread patterns for different requirements.

For the classic Segway PT x2, the Vee Rubber 21x7-10 is PT Pro's all-round recommendation. Based on our long-term practical experience, it provides a good compromise for different surfaces and typical Segway PT x2 applications.

The SunF Intermedia 21x7-10 is our preferred recommendation for suitable off-road wheelchairs and seating systems where this tyre size and configuration are technically appropriate. PT Pro particularly uses this tyre for corresponding off-road applications.

Additional cross, all-terrain and specialist tread patterns are also available. Selection should be based on the actual application rather than simply choosing the most aggressive tread.

Correct tyre pressure – comfort, range and wear

Tyre pressure is particularly important on the Segway PT. Segway itself states that inflation pressure affects suspension characteristics, traction and range. Both tyres must also be inflated equally.

Lower pressure provides greater tyre compliance and therefore increased comfort in practical use. At the same time, rolling resistance and energy consumption increase and the tyre is subjected to greater stress. Higher pressure reduces rolling resistance and can improve range, but produces a firmer ride.

The very low inflation pressures sometimes specified by tyre manufacturers for ATV applications are not automatically the most practical or economical settings for a Segway PT. A Segway PT is used differently from an ATV and has a maximum speed of approximately 20 km/h. PT Pro therefore uses pressure settings adapted to the vehicle, tyre and application based on extensive practical experience.

The recommended values differ significantly between i2 and x2 tyres. Please refer to the relevant PT Pro tyre and inflation-pressure comparison charts and the information provided with each individual tyre.

PT Pro aluminium rims and original Segway wheels

In addition to tyres, PT Pro offers different wheel and rim solutions. These include original Segway wheels and rims as well as aluminium rims supplied by PT Pro for different applications.

For the Segway PT i2, PT Pro offers Turbo aluminium rims among other options. PT Pro 5-spoke aluminium rims are available for the Segway PT x2. Different tyres and mounting configurations may be possible depending on the rim system.

When changing from original wheels to another rim design, tyre size, mounting, clearance and the specific technical configuration must be compatible. Always follow the information provided with the individual product.

Inner tube or tubeless – check the rim system

Whether a tyre can be operated with an inner tube or tubeless depends on the tyre and rim. PT Pro offers suitable inner tubes with angled valves for specific Segway PT i2 applications.

PT Pro special rims may have different tyre installation and inflation-pressure requirements than original Segway rims. Always follow the instructions for the specific rim and tyre combination.

Check tyres and wheels regularly

Segway recommends regular inspection of tyres and wheels. This includes correct and equal tyre pressure on both sides, tyre condition and checking the wheel for unusual lateral movement.

Unequal tyre pressure can noticeably affect vehicle behaviour. Damage, unusual tyre wear, pressure loss or wheel play should therefore not be ignored.

PT Pro tyre advice based on practical Segway PT experience

The optimum tyre cannot be determined by size alone. Vehicle, rim, surface, desired comfort, range and application all need to be considered.

PT Pro therefore evaluates tyres specifically for use on Segway PTs and suitable balance wheelchairs or seating systems. These requirements can differ considerably from the original applications of the same tyres on other vehicle types.

Our detailed tyre and inflation-pressure comparison charts provide additional guidance and show PT Pro's practical recommendations for different applications.
