Error codes Segway PT
Error code display on the infokey of Segway SE i2 / Segway SE x2 / Segway Gen2 i2 /Segway Gen2 x2
The Segway PT error code - a well-kept secret?
When our customers see an error code on their Segway PT Infokey, they would like our technicians to tell them exactly which Segway PT components are affected by that error code.
We would always love to have a simple answer at hand.
But since each error code can hide a variety of possible triggers, you can't define the cause of the error just by looking at the error code; you have to determine the error on the open unit to then rule out the possible triggers one by one.
You can compare this with your body.
- Error code "Nose running."
- Possible triggers = treatment needed
- Allergy = antihistamine
- Bacteria = antibiotic
- Viruses = ....
Segway PT tour providers, after all, are particularly reliant on their Segways PT functioning properly and consistently.
If you take to heart a few, but important basics in the handling and care of Segways PT, they are very low maintenance and repair. Qualitatively, Segways PT are not to be compared with the by far worse processed competitor products. In fact, the Segway PT is the only redundant device on the market. That means the price of the Segway PT is well justified.
Redundant: This means that important components are installed twice. Should one control part fail, the second immediately takes over. Thus, a fall is avoided for technical reasons. Here the Segway PT is unique in the range of Segway PT. Did you know that in Switzerland only Segways PT are allowed in this form? Switzerland considers the competitor products too dangerous, because with these the failure of the control part automatically leads to a fall.
Despite this, the Segway PT needs a minimum of maintenance and care to function faultlessly.
Error code is not equal error code
Of course, as with any electronic device, errors can occur.
However, the tricky part here is in the details. Error code xy does not always have exactly the same cause and effect. Many error codes only roughly indicate the range of the problem.
This also means that maintenance procedures, such as tire air checks, can trigger a fault code if they have been ignored.
So it may be that a fault code
- indicates a major, serious problem that will result in major repair of the Segways PT, or
- by simply checking and adjusting, for example, the tire pressure, the fault is resolved.
Also, it is possible that a string of errors must be corrected to make a Segway PT ready to ride, even though only one error code was displayed on the Infokey.
If there are multiple faults, the Infokey will usually display the most common, or the most serious fault.
Also it can be that they repair a defect and days later a completely new error appears. However, this is then not necessarily the fault of their workshop. The error may not have been visible during the repair, because it was overlaid by another, or it has formed shortly after the repair.
But we can give you hope. So far, with very few exceptions, we have been able to make every Segway PT roadworthy again. And that at economically reasonable conditions.
Important! Save costs - check basics!
Care and maintenance of the Segway PT
Many malfunctions can be avoided by good handling and proper care of the Personal Transporter (PT).
We have information on care and answers to technical questions about the Segway i2 and Segway x2, both Gen2 and SE Segways on our information page.
There you will find everything from Infokey instructions, finding serial numbers, Segway PT Li-Ion battery instructions, installing and removing Segway PT transmissions, couplings and Segway PT transmission elastomers, Segway PT transmission mounting and dismounting and even tire installation we have described in detail. Please note that many of these tasks should only be performed by trained professionals! However, in our opinion, it is not a bad thing if the layman also deals a little with the technical details. Already through this understanding, operating errors can be prevented.
You can check this page regularly. PT Pro will gradually pick up more and more topics related to the Segway PT and make them available there for the Segway PT community free of charge. This is not seen from all sides positive. However, it is part of the company philosophy of PT Pro very transparent to work.
The better they know their Segway PT, the more pleasure you will have in it.
If it still came to an error message (error code)!
Riders of a Segway PT are accustomed to their Segway PT always running reliably.
If the Infokey displays an error code such as E 024 or E 083, the excitement is often great. Immediately the worst is suspected, googled in the Internet forums and the dealer excitedly contacted.
Many repairs and associated downtime can be avoided, however, quite simply! Check them when an error code occurs the basics. Often, this already solves the problem.
To save costs and labor, please check when an error code always first the points below to exclude that it is only a minor issue, which you can easily fix yourself and immediately. If you still cannot solve the problem, our PT Pro technicians will be happy to help you by phone +49 9621 9141950 or by Mail. Your control is also useful for the technician to get a better picture of the problem. They can then also provide detailed statements that make it easier to determine the problem.
When a Segway PT indicates a fault and the basics have been checked and ruled out, it is best to take your cell phone to immediately photograph, or video, fault codes and the effects and behavior of the Segway PT. Then email these to our technical team info@ptpro.de. Explain the problem. The more specific the information, the easier it will be for their Segway PT technician to help you and explain the scope of the problem or discuss how to proceed. It is important to state the exact error code!
Should they ever make a mistake while handling or trying to repair the Segway PT themselves, don't be ashamed, they wouldn't be the first. If this causes a defect on the Segway PT, please inform their workshop also about it. This facilitates troubleshooting and repair and thus also saves time and money!
For Basic Exam:
1.) Check the Infokey:
Check all the keys on the key for functionality:
First of all, the on/off key is the most important key for you. If this one is not working no Segway PT can be turned on. You can see if it is working when a small antenna icon lights up at the bottom center of the Infokey. Of course, this requires a full battery (coin cell) and that it is the correct key for the correct Segway PT (Infokeys are programmed for ONE Segway PT and will only work on the corresponding unit). If the icon lights up but the Segway PT does not turn on, try the same procedure again. Please place the Infokey on the body of the Segway PT in the area where the LED's are located. Should the Segway PT now drive up (go on) it was only the radio connection which is too chess to start the device.
2.) Check whether the batteries are firmly installed on the Segway PT:
There must always be two Batteries attached to the Segway PT for it to be rideable. One battery in the front, one battery in the back. The batteries must be attached to the Segway PT with 4 screws per battery. If any screws are missing from the battery, they may vibrate and cause errors.
3.) Check the function of the batteries and the charging unit:
Push the charging plug all the way into the charging socket. Check if the two LEDs in the middle of the console (Housing) are green.
There must be green light on both LED's. This indicates that the Charger is working and that both Batteries are working and are recognized by the Segway PT.
If one or both LED's are red, this indicates that one Battery is faulty or that the internal Charging Unit is reporting a problem. Should both LED's light up red, the probability is high that both batteries are defective (most common cause deep discharge of the batteries. However, we can often reanimate them). The front LED in the center console of the Segway PT refers to the front battery, the rear LED refers to the rear.
- Red - Error
- green steady light - the Batteries are charging
- green fast flashing - batteries are full but still balancing
- green slow flashing - the batteries are full and are only trickle charging. The Segway PT should always be in this state when not in use
The Segway PT always connected to the power, store in a dry and heated room !!!
4.) Check the wheels:
- Are the wheels each firmly mounted to the gears with the three wheel nuts? Are the wheels running reasonably round and not wobbling?
- When pushing the Segway PT, do the wheels run normally, or does one of the wheels run unusually hard or even lock up
- Check the tire inflation pressure of the tires
- It is important that both wheels on the right and left are inflated with exactly the same air pressure.
- The air pressure can be adjusted to user requirements. Little air pressure = soft, this provides good ride comfort, as the wheels very well cushion the bumps This provides but also for great friction when rolling and thus very much reduces the battery range of the Segway PT.
High air pressure = hard, this reduces the damping of the tires and thus reduces the ride comfort due to less spring action. However, it significantly increases the battery range of the Segway PT.
- Recommendation: Segway i2 14'tires 1.2bar to 1.5 bar tire pressure (this is a good average not too hard and not too soft)
- Recommendation: Segway x2 10'tires 0.7 bar to 1.0 bar tire pressure (this is a relatively high (hard) average value, which has proven itself in 80% of the routes)
- With the recommendation of Segway Inc. of 0.2 bar, they have a very soft low-pressure tire, which works very harmoniously in rough terrain, but the range of the batteries are almost halved and the driving pleasure will unfortunately be very quickly over.
Error still persists
If, after checking these basics and adjusting your Segway PT accordingly, the Infokey continues to display an error code, you can give the technician a lot of valuable information. With this, he can greatly narrow down the fault on the Segway PT. In turn, this will save you money on repairs by, for example, only having to send in the batteries and not the entire Segway PT. Likewise if it can be foreseen that it concerns only wearing parts, which they can order comfortably in on-line Shop with PT pro and then, the necessary training presupposed !, change themselves. But also in the case of serious errors with major repairs, this procedure helps to save time and money by not having to send the entire device to the workshop by expensive freight forwarding. If the reason for the problem is not the attachments, it is sufficient to send the Segway PT Base without attachments, but with the batteries and Infokey. Shipping a Base costs less than €10 in Germany as an insured package. Shipping prices for pallets are much higher.
If a technician does not have to deal with the simple removal and installation of components until he can work on troubleshooting, he saves himself a lot of time, which does not have to be charged to the customer. Your technician will be able to tell you what the best course of action is for your Segway PT problem and what parts or components are needed based on their detailed description. Generally, for each Segway PT base, the appropriate infokey must also be sent so that, for example, a test drive with the repaired Segway PT is possible.
Only sporadic errors - error log
When the Segway PT has spot faults or only sporadic error messages, it is particularly difficult to locate the fault because it may not occur at the moment of testing in the workshop. This type of Segway PT troubleshooting is one of the most difficult and requires very good and detailed error descriptions from the customer so that these errors can also be found and corrected quickly. It often helps to create a fault log here.
- When did the error occur?
- With whom? (Guide? Customer?)
- In what situation? (Power on, uphill, downhill, etc.)
- Displayed error codes? (Photos if possible)
In case of error messages after a fall, accident or water damage with the Segway PT is just as the description of the sequence of events and the exact incident a help to quickly determine the problem.
Once again, the most important things in a nutshell:
What to do if the Segway PT has an error code:
1.) Basic check on the Segway PT
- Check infokey - note error code
- Check batteries
- Check charging unit and synchronization with batteries
- Check attachments especially wheels, gears and motors
2.) Procedure to start a repair request:
- Know error code
- Basic check has been performed and therefore can explain to the technician how the Segway PT currently behaves and reacts during each test
- Optimal: Send us a video or photos of the Segway PT turning on and riding (error code) and trying to charge the Segway PT. (recording the LED's)
- Call or email (info@ptpro.de) your repair shop. Describe your problem to the PT Pro team In difficult cases, a technician will call you back or has immediate time for them
- After making an appointment with PT Pro Headquarters or the technician, please disassemble the Segway PT according to their technical skills to the extent that it can be shipped as inexpensively as possible.
- Download our repair and diagnostic sheets
- Fill out the repair request and diagnostic sheets, email to PT Pro and include with the part to be repaired
To ensure that no components are damaged during transport, they should pay attention to a well protective packaging during shipping!
Important!
For each device or component sent for repair, a fully completed repair request (diagnostic sheet, repair request form, etc.) must be included!
This is needed to assign incoming Segways PT or parts and contact the owner. For this reason, it is very important that these forms are filled out and sent with the goods on their journey. To be safe, please also email them to us in advance at info@ptpro.de.
Error Code List for Segway PT
.As PT Pro, we cannot be held responsible for the completeness and accuracy of this list.
Displayed error codes and misbehavior of the Segway PT can always have several and different reasons!!!
Furthermore, we expressly point out that Segways PT may only be maintained and repaired by trained professionals.
Especially the repair of the components inside the base by untrained personnel is life-threatening!!!
From our experience, a repair will usually be more expensive if the Segway PT has been "broken repaired" beforehand!
With pleasure we help them further!
Contact us via the Repair request diagnostic sheet.
Our technician will then deal with their problem. Please also leave your phone number and full contact details!
