The soft gear shaft, which runs in the needle bearing with hardened needle rollers, is not up to the continuous load of Segway PT riding. The too-soft shaft runs into the hard needle bearing and becomes increasingly thinner. Once this process begins, it progresses at an increasing rate. In addition, the surrounding bearings in the transmission (gear box) are damaged by the abrasion that collects in the oil and thus works its way into the bearings. Depending on the gearbox generation, this happens more quickly or is a gradual process.

As a rider of a Segway PT, you can only feel this in the louder scraping noise and the clacking of the wheels or the connection of the wheels to the gearbox (gear box).

On the one hand, the couplings and elastomers are responsible for this, but which should be changed at certain intervals anyway (wear part). This change is quite simple and quickly done. Solid knowledge provided.

A bigger problem, however, is the wear in the gearbox (Gear Box) itself. The Segway PT continues to run without any major noticeable defects, just a bit louder and rougher. This also occasionally causes error messages, which are gone again after restarting the Segway PT. The precise control in driving mode is also negatively affected by this.

Since no repairs are carried out by the company Segway Inc. on the gears (Gear Boxes), now only the very expensive exchange of the gearbox is an option. Therefore, we at PT Pro have taken on this problem and looked for and developed a cost-effective solution. With over 5 years of experience and numerous transmissions of all generations, we have not only acquired numerous special tools, but also refined the technique to revise, repair and improve transmissions. During normal service, we remove the gearbox, disassemble it, clean all parts in disassembled state, check condition and tolerances. Then we rework the pressed-out shaft, install an improved bearing seat and then refill the gearbox (Gear Box) with a mixture of high quality gear oil and additives (higher quality oil than original). With this optimization of your transmission, the problem is fixed for the lifetime of the Segway PT.
